Live Register: Unemployment rate drops to 12.3pc

Ireland has performed best in Europe at reducing those on Social Welfare.

NEW figures show that on a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 2,300 in January 2014, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 400,700.

For the same period,standardised unemployment rate (SUR) in January 2014 was 12.3pc, down from 12.4pc in December 2013.

In unadjusted terms there were 399,630 people signing on the Live Register in January 2014.  This represents an annual decrease of 29,766 , or just under 7pc.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from the most recent Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) was 12.8pc in the third quarter of 2013. See table 3.
