JD Wetherspoon pays €1.5m for former church in Dublin's city centre
PUB chain JD Wetherspoon has paid €1.47m for a church in Dublin's city centre, paying more than three times the guide price.
The former Baptist church was more recently used a rehearsal centre for the nearby Abbey Theatre.
It was sold at auction last Thursday and attracted much interest, according to the selling agent.
JD Wetherspoon, which has been active in the Irish pub market over the past few years, already owns the former TSB bank next door at 12B Lower Abbey Street which it bought earlier this year for €1.5m - they will function as a gastro pub.
The 4,240 sq ft iconic landmark building is located next to the Irish Life Centre, and close to the IFSC and Dublin Docklands.
