POP princess Kylie Minogue may have been top of the charts at one stage but she certainly isn't queen of the scents.
Irish shoppers have turned their nose up at Kylie's fragrance -- her Sexy Darling perfume is one of Ireland's least popular celebrity smells, according to the beauty and health retailer Superdrug.
However, actress and model Kelly Brook has more to be downcast about -- her perfume has the poorest sales of celebrity scents. About one in five of all fine fragrances sold at Superdrug are celebrity perfumes --up from one in 10 last year.
However, other stores have reported a drop in sales of celebrity perfumes. "Celebrity perfumes are not as much a trend today as they were before," said Michelle Pollard, cosmetics manager with Clerys. "People are going back to the old classics, like Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle and Eau Premier."
Celebrity perfumes don't feature in the top-selling perfume brands in Ireland, according to the latest figures from market research firm Euromonitor International. Calvin Klein is instead winning the game -- its Eternity is the best-selling Irish perfume, followed by Contradiction, another Calvin Klein fragrance. Gucci's Envy ranks in third place in the sales chart.
The insecure Britney Spears, however, should be cheered that her Fantasy scent is the best-selling celebrity perfume here, followed by Curious, another Britney scent, according to Superdrug. Christina Aguilera is the third best-selling celebrity perfume at Superdrug, followed by Jordan's Stunning in fourth place.
