THE Roundwood Park Estate in Wicklow – the scene of a dramatic garda shootout with the IRA – has been placed on the market, with offers sought in the order of €5.5m.
The former home of billionaires Galen and Hilary Weston, as well as former president Sean T O'Ceallaigh, is one of the most significant to be placed on the market for several years.
Roundwood Park is an 18th Century country house on 373 acres of acres of land and is located in one of Ireland's most expensive counties.
It comes with tennis courts, an artificial lake, stables, a courtyard, its own private gym, guest house, a gate lodge and an office building.
There are five big bedrooms, all of which are en suite and the house is full of ornate woodwork, crafted fireplaces and cornicing.
The best receptions include a library, grand entrance hall with an impressive staircase, a drawing room and a dining room, while there is an additional stairs at the back of the house which has been installed for servants.
Estate Agents Ganly Walters are responsible for the sale of the property, which is likely to appeal to a global private home and investors market.
The house is understood to be in need of investment and some amount of restoration to bring it back to perfect condition.
