Trading levels in Independent News & Media – the parent of Independent.ie - spiked briefly on Wednesday after a single trade saw 30m shares in the company appear to change hands.
The surge was caused by routine trade known as a “roll over trade” which allows for an investor to move their holding between accounts.
The trade is booked as if there is a separate buyer and seller, but there is no change in ownership.
Shares in INM closed at just under 17c.
