House builder Abbey buoyed by 'improving confidence' in Irish market

HOUSE builder Abbey has reported a pre-tax profit of €24.1m for the year ended April 2014, more than double that of the previous 12 months.

The company said that operating profit for the period was €20.4m, up from €8.4m the previous year.

Abbey completed 353 house sales in the UK, 22 in Ireland and 15 in the Czech Republic in the period with turnover of €99.3m.

"In Ireland the re-launch of our business has gone well," Abbey said.

"Our project in Shankill is sold out.

"The first phase on our project in Stocking Wood is fully reserved while further projects are planned, in particular a very attractive site in Delgany, Co Wicklow for upwards of 30 houses was acquired at the turn of the year.  Improving confidence is evident across the market.

"Trading in the UK was good during the period."

The company is also upbeat about the coming year.
