Hot weather drives 170pc surge in sun cream sales
SUNCREAM sales have hiked 170pc in the past couple of weeks as the fair-skinned Irish avoid being burned during the heat wave.
With Met Eireann promising that the hot weather will last for at least another weekend, pocket-sized sun care creams are proving the best-sellers.
Tesco says it is having the strongest sales of sun cream in seven years.
Also popular are products for sensitive skin, up 75p while after-sun cream sales are up 16pc.
Colm Honey, Sun Cream Buyer for Tesco, said: “Our sun care product ranges have been flying off the shelves in recent weeks with our Irish customers very conscious of protecting their skin during this period of fine weather.
“We have noticed a particular surge in pocket-sized sun creams in recent weeks - as customers enjoy days out at beaches and parks throughout the country they are keen to have handy sized suncare products for when they are on the go.”
