New figures filed by the Dubliner's firm, David O'Doherty Ltd, show profits jumping from €413,083 to €684,414. The €271,331 rise in profits compares to a jump in profits of €158,293 in 2013. The firm's cash pile increased sharply during the year from €300,943 to €488,363.

In the prior year, the firm's cash pile had increased from €238,640 to €300,943.

The accounts list David O'Doherty and artist James O'Doherty as directors with David O'Doherty owning 100pc of the firm. The figures show that directors emoluments last year totalled €109,085 - down marginally on the €108,070 paid out to directors in 2013. Mr O'Doherty will be entertaining his fans at the Vodafone Dublin Comedy festival that runs from today to next Sunday.

The firm's annual return describes his occupation as 'author, journalist or editor' and the 39-year old will shortly be embarking on an exhaustive UK and Ireland tour with his 'We are All in the Gutter, But Some of Us are Looking at David O'Doherty' tour.
