ONE of the largest roof-mounted solar-power projects in the country will be installed at Butlers Chocolates in Dublin.

The confectioners has signed a deal with energy firm Gaelectric to install 1,500 panels across 2,850 sqm of the factory roof at Clonshaugh Business Park.

The project, which will be completed early next year, will generate more than 350,000 kWh of power - equal to 14pc of its annual consumption.

"We are committed to the sustainable production of delicious chocolates," Butlers MD Aisling Walsh said. "We source ethically from around the world and are continuously working to reduce the impacts of our manufacturing and distribution systems on the environment."

"This is the first of many similar projects that Gaelectric will be developing," said MD Joe O'Carroll.
