Goodman eyes Adare Manor hospital

THE Galway Clinic, backed by surgeon Jimmy Sheehan and beef magnate Larry Goodman, among others, plans to open a new satellite clinic on the grounds of Adare Manor in Co Limerick. The Galway Clinic has recently agreed the new project with Adare's owner Tom Kane, the American businessman and former fighter pilot.

"We have a lot of patients in Tipperary, Limerick and North Kerry and this is about facilitating patients," Sheehan said.

The new clinic, he added, would be an outpatient facility only and offer a range of services including diagnostics, consultation and radiology. It plans to open on January 1, 2013.

Kane had during the boom tried to build a hospital on the grounds of Adare Manor, but Sheehan said this was not in Galway's immediate plans. "We may look at something bigger in time," he said.

Kane's family control about 80 per cent of the luxury resort which will be boosted by the Galway link-up. The rest is owned by investors including Ken Langone, the billionaire co-founder of the US retail giant Home Depot.

The resort hosts the annual JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am charity golf tournament.
