First we had Barack Obama plaza, but next it could be Brian Boru getting the glory after Supermac's boss Pat McDonagh revealed he is planning a number of new motorway plazas.

Mr McDonagh announced plans for three more motorway plazas which will result in a further 300 jobs.

And he revealed he would be considering names of note for all his upcoming ventures.

"The name does have an impact with the Barack Obama plaza. We're certainly attracting a lot of American interest, that's for sure.

"For future names it will depend on who was significant for that area. We'd be happy to mark people of great note, we'll go all the way back to Brian Boru if we have to," he said.

The businessman's second plaza in Kiltullagh, Co Galway, will open next March. The €8m plaza will be the country's largest motorway service station.

He is also planning similar ventures in Ennis and Limerick.
