Fresh drive to put Leitrim on the map

A NEW tourism brand for county Leitrim has been launched to act as a one-stop information shop for visitors to the county.
"Leitrim -- explore, experience, enjoy" is aimed at reaching out and providing a variety of informational portals to the wide variety of visitors both domestic and international who visit or are considering visiting Leitrim.
The central platform for the new brand is its new website, www.enjoyleitrim.com, which is supported by social media profiles on both Facebook and Twitter.
The launch of the new tourism brand is also being supported through a focused national and regional radio and print advertising campaign during August and September.
The chairman of Leitrim Tourism, Joe Dolan, is understandably happy to be launching the new brand.
"Leitrim's tourism industry has competed very effectively both nationally and internationally and the redevelopment of our tourism brand is the most effective way to support our stakeholders in Leitrim tourism and, of course, the wide variety of visitors who come to Leitrim every year," he said.
Long viewed as something of a tourist backwater, Leitrim Tourism believe the county has benefited greatly from the exposure it received during Brian O'Driscoll's wedding to Amy Huberman. The challenge now, says Toursim Officer, Sinead McDermott, is to build on that publicity.
"The new brand and its platforms are aimed at all age groups, from young singles looking for weekend getaways, to families searching for affordable holidays, right across to a more mature audience in search of nature, history and relaxation.
"To celebrate the launch we will be running a number of online competitions with free weekends on offer for some lucky winners."
