FORMER US ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley (right), who during his tenure here in 2007 netted a neat $40m from the sale of his holding in transmission device manufacturer TB Woods, has won the race for the Republican nomination for Governor of Connecticut.
He is already reckoned to have written $3m in campaign cheques. "I hope he doesn't mortgage the yacht," quipped Democrat candidate Dan Molloy.
