Etihad to up Aer Lingus stake

GULF airline Etihad has indicated that it may increase its near 3 per cent stake in Aer Lingus early in the new year.

Etihad boss James Hogan last week suggested that the airline would review its shareholding in Aer Lingus when regulators make a decision on Ryanair's takeover offer. It is believed that the competition probe will be largely complete by February.

Hogan suggested that Etihad might return to the market if Aer Lingus's share price falls in the wake of any EU decision.
