Employment figures reach 2009 levels - CSO

THE number of people employed in the country increased by 29,100 in the past year, new figures show.

Employment levels are at their highest levels since the third quarter of 2009, figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

The increase in total employment of 29,100 in the year to the fourth quarter of 2014 was represented by an increase in full-time employment of 39,600, up 2.7pc, and a decrease in part-time employment of 10,500.

The figures also show the biggest gains in the construction and financial sectors while the biggest fall came in the agriculture sector.

According to the Quarterly National Household Survey, there are 1,938,900 in employment, an increase of 1.5pc in 2014.
