Difficult week for Prudential chief as AIG bid fails

THIS has been a difficult week for Harvey McGrath (right), the Irish chairman of UK insurer Prudential who saw his bid to buy AIG's Asian unit go down in flames on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old McGrath and Prudential chief executive Tidjane Thiam have been meeting investors since the deal fell through to quell criticism over their handling of the bid.

Belfast-born McGrath took the Prudential chairmanship in 2008 after Sir Win Bischoff -- who had been lined up to take the role -- departed for Citibank.
