D-Day for deal on local radio news services

EITHER Newstalk or UTV will be popping the Champagne later today as Ireland's local radio stations award a medium-term contract for the "news services" formally supplied by INN.
Thomas Crosbie Holdings and TV3, which had both been expected to apply for the new contract, are understood to have failed to submit bids, making today's contest a two-horse race.
Newstalk arrives at D-Day in a position of strength, having won an interim contract to supply its news product to 17 local stations back in October and having apparently done a fine job of fulfilling those contracts since.
Ronan McManamy's UTV, which won over just one local station back in October, remains bullish nonetheless, hoping to increase its flock this time round after providing its services over the last few months.
The new contract is expected to run for at least two years.
