DAVID Duffy has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer at Allied Irish Bank.

In a statement the bank said his remuneration would be in line with Government guidelines.

Mr Duffy (50) has previously worked for Standard Bank International and ING Barings.

He will take up the post next month. He had been hotly tipped for the post.

Also, Aviva - which last month announced it was cutting up to 1,250 jobs in Ireland - has appointed a new CEO for its Irish operation.

Seán Egan is the former chief operations officer of Aviva in the UK.

He was also transformation direction for Aviva Europe.

Mr Egan takes over from Dermot Browne, who will be leaving the group at the end of 2011.
