Curran named new RTE chief

Former journalist Noel Curran has been appointed the new director general of RTE, it was announced today.

Communications minister Eamon Ryan and the Government signed off on Mr Curran taking over the top job from Cathal Goan.

A native of Co Monaghan, Mr Curran was a deputy editor with Business and Finance before joining the broadcaster in 1992.

He worked as an RTE television reporter, producer and editor.

Mr Curran served as editor of current affairs where he established the Prime Time Investigates series.

Mr Goan announced in July that he was stepping down after serving a seven-year term.

Mr Curran will take up office in February.
