TAOISEACH Brian Cowen was promised a €71m boost for the economy yesterday when he visited the country’s first purpose-built conference centre.

Mr Cowen was at the Conference Centre Dublin (CCD) at Spencer Dock, which is being developed ahead of schedule and is due to open its doors to the public in September.

Over 35 conference events, some lasting up to five days and hosting over 2,000 delegates, have been booked for the CCD to date.

With the average spend of an international delegate estimated at €1,400, the CCD already promises a €71m injection to the struggling Irish economy.
