Consumer spending up, but growth slows

Consumer spending grew at its weakest pace in 15 months last month, according to the latest gauge from Visa.

Spending across all payment types rose 4.6pc year-on-year, but weaker than the 6.3pc year-on-year increase recorded in July, and was the slowest since May of last year.

Expenditure online continued to be the strongest, but face-to-face sales near stagnated. The rise of 0.8pc year-on-year was the slowest in the two-year series history.
