The number of people who have had property tax deducted directly from wages or welfare payments is already 30,000 higher than last year's total, according to a report.
Freedom of Information figures obtained by RTE put the compliance rate at 87pc, down from 97pc last year.
87,000 deductions at source have been made so far this year, compared to 56,200 across 2015.
Around 1.7 million households pay the tax, calculated on the value of property. It is collected by the Revenue Commissioners, who have the power to deduct it from payments if it is not paid up front.
