Irish cement maker Ecocem has signed a collaboration deal with Swedish mining giant Boliden - the owners of the Tara zinc mine.
The deal will see Ecocem supply cement to the Meath mine, as well as the Garpenberg mine in Sweden.
The company has signed a deal with the Port of Gavle near the Swedish mine for a new import terminal, officially opened today by the Irish ambassador to Sweden Orla O'Hanrahan.
"These agreements are initially for three years, with options for extensions, giving Ecocem a solid base domestically and an excellent opportunity to pursue other opportunities in the Swedish market," Ecocem Ireland managing director Conor O'Riain said.
This announcement comes shortly after Ecocem signed a partnership with steel manufacturers ArcelorMittal, involving a joint investment of over €47m to open a manufacturing facility in Dunkirk, France.
