Bunzl chief executive Michael Roney is to join the board of Grafton Group as a non-executive chairman at the end of this year, replacing the retiring Michael Chadwick.
Mr Roney will leave Bunzl next month after spending 10 years in the role. Before joining Bunzl Mr Roney was chief executive of Goodyear Dunlop Tyres Europe.
The Bunzl chief will assume the role of non-executive director, deputy chairman and chairman designate on May 1 before taking on the role of chairman on January 1 2017.
"I am very pleased to have the opportunity to join the Board of Grafton as chairman designate and look forward to contributing to the continued successful strategic development of a great business," Mr Roney said of his new role.
Mr Roney will replace Mr Chadwick, who joined Grafton in 1975 before being added to the board in 1979.
"I am delighted that Mike Roney has agreed to accept the role of Chairman Designate and that the Board has secured the services of someone with the breadth of his international business experience and impressive track record of building long term sustainable growth," Mr Chadwick said.
Grafton CEO Gavin Slark thanked Mr Chadwick for his "entrepreneurial leadership" during his time at the firm.
"The board greatly appreciates that Michael Chadwick has agreed to remain as Non-Executive Chairman until the end of the year which will allow for a smooth transition.”
