Budget will hit children

By Nick Webb

Sunday April 05 2009

THE €1,000 per year early childcare supplement is likely to be targeted in Tuesday's emergency Budget, according to well-placed sources.

When the early childcare supplement was first introduced over three years ago, parents were entitled to €1,000 a year for each child under the age of six. Last December, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan reduced the age limit to five-and-a-half.

This age limit will be reduced again to five years or lower in this week's mini-budget.
