IF someone was to ask me, "Amanda, do you have good stock?" I would immediately think: what are we talking here, chicken or beef?
The only markets I follow are farmers' markets, and the only time I would speak of shares would be on the rare occasions when my two sons would be nice to one another and work out a compromise with their toys.
Unfortunately while I see myself as a bit of a domestic goddess, I'm no Martha Stewart. If I was to be a bit of smart-ass I'd say helium was up, feathers were down, and paper was stationary!
PETROCELTIC
But my competitive streak wouldn't allow me to just leave it at that. I did a little digging, and thanks to the Phoenix Christmas annual, I learnt Petroceltic were the biggest winners in 2009 with a +517 per cent gain in their share prices -- so my money would be on them be a continued grower in 2010.
KENMARE
Kenmare came in second with a +344 per cent gain in their share prices -- so since I'm not much of a gambler, I'd also take a small punt on them.
PADDY POWER
I would also venture a bet on Paddy Power. The recession hasn't effected gambling, and these guys really know how to market themselves.
TESCO
Tesco would be another sexy option. They've seen a significant growth in their online sales, and they're also developing in far-off countries.
My next investment would be in Facebook. With the world becoming an increasingly ugly place, people have taken to staying home more and making love to their laptops all night.Being a Facebooker myself, I understand it's popularity and potential.
Lastly, I'd throw a few bob at Google and support them for a change. Well, if you typed Amanda Brunker into their search engine you'd see how well they've supported me so I'd just like to repay the good will.
Being the eternal optimist that I am, I would say the Iseq will be in an even healthier state at the end of 2010 than it is now. Brian Cowen might want to depress us all, but I'm a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel girl.
ISEQ in December 2010: 3,300
