Benign start to 2010 for RTE
THE national broadcaster is having a quieter start to 2010, with the massive revenue shortfall identified early in 2009 failing to show in this year's forecasts.
Last January RTE was predicting a "revenue shortfall" of €30m to €100m, before pinning it down to €68m in a letter to the Government a month later. This year, the initial soundings are more benign.
Revenue in 2010 is expected to match 2009's performance, having apparently found a floor after the sizable ad-market collapse of last year. Costs cuts in mid-2009 will also show a full-year impact this year, making for a brighter picture all round.
