Banking on a quick sale -- snap up branch for €70,000
WANTED: someone to buy a bank with its own safe for just €70,000.
The former branch of Bank of Ireland in Lifford, Co Donegal, went on the market yesterday.
As well as a safe, the property comes with reinforced windows, security grills, male and female toilets and all the original fixtures and fittings, including the bank counter and meeting rooms.
Now, if only we could find a bank to give us a mortgage to make an offer.
Estate agent Brendan McGlynn admitted the sale was more unusual than his more recent offering -- a 'buy one, get one free' deal on houses in Letterkenny.
"The branch operated from the 1970s until its closure about eight years ago," said Mr McGlynn of donegalproperty.com.
"It's probably not so rare these days for an entire bank to be bought or sold in the current economic climate, but it's still rare enough to see a branch on the property market."
The branch at Main Street in the border town would be suitable as commercial premises.
"I'm not so sure it would be suitable as a home, but maybe there is someone out there who wants to keep their money in their own safe inside their own bank. Then they would have their own bank guarantee," he added.
