Avolon chief executive Domhnal Slattery is to be awarded the 'Outstanding Contribution to the Aviation Industry' award at this year's Aviation Industry Awards.

Mr Slattery co-founded Avolon six years ago and the company is shortly to become the third largest aircraft lessor in the world when its takeover of rival CIT completes. Previously he worked for Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) and GE Capital Aviation Services.

Mr Slattery follows the late Tony Ryan (founder of GPA) and IAG boss Willie Walsh as winner of the award.

"Domhnal Slattery has, over a 27-year career, established himself and those businesses which he has led, as global leaders," said Patrick Blaney, chairman of the Aircraft Leasing, Finance and Law Programme at UCD Graduate School of Business and a member of the judging panel.
