There were about 36,900 fewer people signing on for unemployment benefits in January than the same period last year, official data shows.
Some 323,200 people were on the Live Register last month on a seasonally adjusted basis, down from 360,100 in January of last year, according to the data from the Central Statistics Office.
On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register showed that there were 3,500 fewer men on the dole last month, or 1.8pc, while the number of women signing on fell by 1,200, or 0.9pc.
The number of male claimants dropped by 26,922, or 12.3pc, to 191,756 in the year to the end of last month, while female claimants decreased by 9,948, or 7.1pc, to 130,046.
