Andrea lets her hair down

ONLY in Dublin. The Punt has seen enough viral videos in our time to take them with a pinch of salt, but one that popped up on Monday night is definitely one for the ages, partly for the content, but mainly because one of the stars is very well known to most political and business reporters in the country.

The video shows a vaguely bemused taxi driver bopping away to Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' last Friday night in central Dublin. The driver of the cab was invited out of his cab to dance by a blonde reveller in a blue dress, and the pair proceeded to re-enact a scene from the classic 'Dirty Dancing' – or something like that at least. The woman was none other than Andrea Pappin (left). The well-known Europhile was most recently the spokeswoman for Ireland's presidency of the European Union.

Given the stresses involved in dealing with press from all over the world, it is not surprising Ms Pappin was letting her hair down last Friday – it's been a long six months dealing with the baying hacks after all.

It was all in the name of good fun. Whether Ms Pappin is happy to be a star in the most popular Irish YouTube hit of recent weeks is a different question.
