The Brian O'Driscoll-Amy Huberman wedding at the four-star Lough Rynn hotel generated over €1m worth of free publicity for the hotel.
That's according to the former hotel group director at Lough Rynn, Clement Gaffney, who was commenting on a new report claiming that a celebrity wedding at Donald Trump's Doonbeg golf resort delivered €500,000 worth of free coverage to the resort across all media platforms.
The celebrity couple who had their wedding reception at Doonbeg are not named in the report by Dublin-based PR firm Wilson Hartnell, but Stereophonics lead singer Kelly Jones married MTV star Jakki Healy at Doonbeg in2013.
Mr Gaffney departed Lough Rynn last year to take up his new post as general manager at the five-star InterContinental hotel in Dublin.
He said yesterday that at the time of the Brian-Amy wedding in 2010, Lough Rynn commissioned PR firm Murray Consultants to put a value on the free publicity the hotel gained from the wedding, "and it was in excess of €1m".
Mr Gaffney said that the during the 12 months prior to the wedding, "there was a huge amount of press, TV, magazine coverage and around the time of the wedding, the national papers gave coverage to Lough Rynn for seven consecutive days."
He added: "The hotel became such a recognised household name - a name that was associated with luxury and with the couple - it was a great business fit."
He said the publicity "would have brought a significant growth in bookings".
