Airtricity lends some energy with marathon sponsorship

Airtricity, Ireland's second-largest energy provider, has been announced as the new title sponsor of the Dublin City Marathon.

This partnership also includes the Race Series in the run-up to the marathon on October 28.

The first race in the series is the 5-mile race – which takes place in the Phoenix Park this Saturday.

The Fingal 10km is in Swords on Sunday July 21, while the action returns to the Phoenix Park for the Frank Duffy 10-mile run on August 24, and Dublin half-marathon on September 21.

Last year a record number of 14,000 people participated in the marathon. The economic value of the Airtricity Dublin Marathon to Dublin over the October Bank Holiday weekend is estimated at more than €10m.

Dublin Marathon race director Jim Aughney said: "We are delighted to have Airtricity on board as our new title sponsor this year. Airtricity shares our vision and aims for the growth of the Dublin Marathon. It is a huge endorsement of what we have achieved to date."
