AIB still paying for chauffeurs
CASH-STRAPPED AIB is still forking out for bank cars to chauffeur senior executives between meetings. It also allows some staff to claim their full home-phone bills as expenses, even if they have company mobiles.
News of the perks follows the furore over AIB's recent admission that it pays out up to €2,500 per employee for sports club subscriptions.
A spokesman for AIB this week confirmed that "bank cars" are used to "take senior executives to and from meetings where necessary."
He declined to expand on when it would be necessary to use a bank car rather than a taxi. AIB also declined to answer questions on how many bank cars it has and how much the transport costs. The bank was similarly reluctant to discuss the payment of home phone bills. It confirmed executives "get home phone bills paid for as a result of their work requirements and pay income tax on the non-business element".
