Aer Lingus passenger numbers up 13pc in December but figures misleading

AER LINGUS has reported a 13pc hike in December passenger numbers but the figures are misleading as weather conditions during the month meant customers made multiple bookings.
The airline flew 702,000 customers in December compared with 621,000 in the same period last year.
But the load factor – or percentage of seats filled on a plane – fell over 6pc to 68.4pc in the same period while on short haul flights the drop was 5.5pc.
The airline gave no update on a potential sale of the Government’s stake in it.
Last week, Ryanair announced that its traffic had fallen in December.
