80 jobs under threat at clothes chain
UP to 80 jobs may be in danger after the owners and operators of ladies' footwear and fashion accessories retail chain Carl Scarpa applied to the High Court to be placed into examinership.
The application is by firms CS Calzature Ltd and Carl Scarpa (Grafton Street) Limited, which own and operate approximately 20 outlets trading under the Carl Scarpa name in Ireland and the UK. The two firms employ more than 80 full-time and part-time staff.
The companies cited high rents and the general economic downturn for their current difficulties. They are seeking the appointment of an examiner on the grounds that they have a good prospect of survival if certain steps are taken.
The Carl Scarpa brand has been in existence since 1974.
