WE must improve the quality and number of engineering and computer third level graduates to meet market demands, Forfas has warned in a new report.
But body that advises the government on trade, science and technology, has also said that potentially 44,000 IT jobs could come on stream over the next six years.
This report was carried out as part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs.
The agency forecasts that demand for computer skills will rise 5pc each year, bringing employment in the area to 91,000 in six years.
However, it added that the quality and number of engineering and computer skills will have to improve including training, reskilling, and better professional development as well as attracting skills workers from abroad.
It also recommends that more women be encouraged into ICT careers and the promotion of the country as a hub.
