Wednesday November 11 2009

Another 150 call centre jobs are to be created in Derry, it has been revealed.

Business support company Firstsource plans to employ workers including customer support advisers and operations management.

Its clients include FTSE 100 banks, telecommunications and healthcare companies.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said: "This is a welcome boost for the local economy and extremely good news for the North West.

"FirstSource is a globally respected company, with a strong focus on the training and development of its staff and this announcement will provide new employment opportunities at a time of economic uncertainty."

The business already employs over 700 people on a Derry site and a further 500 in Belfast.

Firstsource is headquartered in Mumbai, India, and provides business process management services to global companies across the world.

Ms Foster added: "The announcement clearly demonstrates the competitiveness of the Northern Ireland proposition during the current downturn, and the confidence FirstSource has in this region.

"Having forged a strong partnership with Invest Northern Ireland, FirstSource has become a major business services employer, strengthening the sector locally and contributing towards the further development of transferable skills, a trend which looks set to continue."
