Activity apps to help you stay healthy
Practise good ergonomics
Sitting all day has serious health implications and is linked to everything from osteoporosis to heart disease. Stand Up! Can be customised to your work schedule and you can set the reminder interval to any five minute increment between five minutes and two hours. The alarm is limited to your office location so won't annoy you if you go out to lunch and a header lets you see how you're doing.
Keep your eyes on wellness
While the health benefits of taking regular breaks are well documented, TakeBreak encourages you to do something beneficial during that time by stretching your body and exercising your eyes. The stretch exercises are designed to reduce neck, back waist and shoulder pains while the eye exercises helps strengthen eyes. There are 15 exercises and the programme takes 3-4 minutes to finish.
You deserve time out
If despite your best intentions, you get so caught up in work that you often forget to breaks, Time Out gives you a helping hand by slowly dimming your screen out when it's time to step away from the screen. It has two types of break: a 'normal' break for 10 minutes every hours or a 'micro' break of 15 seconds every 15 minutes. It can be disabled, and you can configure how long breaks last, and breaks stop automatically when you go away from the computer
Fun ways to train that brain
It's as important to exercise the mind as it is the body and Lumosity, created by scientists and game designers, allows you to do so in a fun way. There are over 30 games which measure problem solving, flexibility, attention, speed and memory and practising these every day, even for a short time, can help improve cognitive abilities, while analysis gives you an insight into your strength and weaknesses.
