Hobbit and Hunger Games spur 0.6pc jump in EU box office takings
New instalments of The Hobbit and The Hunger Games helped spur a 0.6pc rise in gross EU box office takings last year.
Provisional figures from the European Audiovisual Observatory show cinema owners raked in €6.32bn.
However, Irish cinema owners suffered a fall in revenue with takings dropping to €100.4m from €102.8m.
Sequels and spin offs featured prominently in the EU charts. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was most popular with 22.7 million admissions, while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was second with 20.1 million.
