Neil Naughton, the deputy chairman of Glen Dimplex, has said the private company founded by his father, Martin Naughton, will not become a publicly listed company.

Naughton, whose brother Fergal Naughton took over as chief executive of the world's largest electric heating and renewable energy business last April, said its private status helped to keep competitors at bay and preserved its long-term strategy.

Naughton (45) was speaking ahead of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Saturday, which will see 20,000 fans of Boston College and Georgia Tech arrive in Ireland. Coca Cola CEO Muhtar Kent will address more than 350 Irish and US business leaders as part of the week-long festivities.
