The sale of a 70ac non-residential farm close to Rathdowney in Co Laois has attracted enquiries from potential buyers from as far away as Co Cork, as well as counties Laois, Kilkenny and Kildare.

The farm at Graigueadrisley, five miles from Rathdowney, is described by auctioneer William Mansfield as a good dry farm with excellent fattening qualities.

The land has been let out for a number of years and is in permanent pasture, laid out in a single block. However, the land could be offered for sale in a number of lots, if that was of interest, the auctioneer has indicated. There are no single farm payment entitlements included in the sale.

There is a single storey derelict house on the land, which could indicate that planning permission would be possible for a residence on the land.

There is a range of derelict outbuildings located beside the old house and the farm also has a cattle crush and collecting yard.

The farm is being sold by executors for representatives of the late Patrick Bowe. The sale is a public auction at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Friday, September 23 at 3pm.

The farm has a guide price in the region of €10,000/ac.

The same auctioneer is also handling the sale of a 69ac roadside residential farm at Ballacolla, Co Laois. For sale by private treaty, the tillage farm includes a 20-year-old house and has a guide price of €10,000-12,000/ac.

Meanwhile, Mr Mansfield has a number of clients looking for farms within 10 miles of Portlaoise and beyond.

The buyers are both cattle producers and tillage farmers who are seeking blocks of land up to 100ac in size. The clients are also interested in long term leasing agreements for suitable blocks of land.
