Warm weather sees milk surge
Warm temperatures and improved grass growth resulted in a surge of milk supplied to creameries in May, CSO figures have confirmed.
Domestic milk intake rose to 734.5m litres in May, just 0.1pc behind the same month in 2012.
Milk supplies had been running 68.4m litres behind in April 2013 compared to April 2012. The CSO figures show that the total milk sold for human consumption fell by 0.5pc in May 2013 versus May 2012. Butter production was also down 5.2pc.
