Wall named new IML boss

UCD's Professor Paddy Wall has been appointed chairman of Independent Milk Laboratories (IML), the independent milk and disease test laboratory established as a joint venture between Progressive Genetics and British-based National Milk Records.

The facility will be based in Balieborough, Co Cavan, and Lakeland Co-op has signed a five-year deal with IML to carry out independent milk testing.

Speaking at the launch of IML at last week's ploughing event, Mr Wall said that this milk and disease facility will be a vital part of the infrastructure for a vibrant dairy business in Ireland, while IFA president John Bryan welcomed IML as a co-op-owned outfit delivering low-cost, accurate data.
