Treaty land makes ¤13k

An elevated farm at Ballylanders, Co Limerick, extending to 27.25ac with a residence in need of substantial refurbishment, was sold at auction last week for €370,000 or €13,500/ac. The farm made €120,000 over its guide price.

Auctioneer Richard Ryan, of GVM Auctioneers, Kilmallock, said that the vendors were extremely pleased with the sale.

"We had hoped to break the €300,000 mark but we certainly did not expect to go €70,000 beyond it," he said.

The farm, the estate of the late Patrick O'Brien, is situated at Griston East, one mile from Ballylanders.

The property includes a residence that has been unoccupied for several years and a range of traditional outbuildings. On the lower reaches of the Galtee Mountains, the land is described as high and dry and dotted with some fine mature trees. The buyer was a local man with farming interests.
