The transmission has got to be one of the nicest of any tractor in its category to operate and use. The demo 5455 featured MF's Dyna-4 semi-powershift and power-shuttle transmission with a total of 16 forward and 16 reverse gears, four powershift gears in four ranges.
The shuttle lever on the left of the steering wheel allows you to change direction and powershifts on the same lever is a really useful facility when you get used to it. Lifting it also disconnects the transmission as if you clutched the tractor.
A T-shaped lever located at the front of the right-hand console allows the driver to change powershift gears and ranges as well, in addition to the shuttle lever. You do find yourself gravitating towards one or the other depending on the work you are doing with the tractor. Powershift and direction changes were really smooth, even with just 20 hours on the clock.
MF also has a dial under the T-bar where you can make the direction change harder or softer when forward/reverse shuttling. I know MF has had that facility on its products a long time but I still think it's a great feature.
