Glanbia will pay €122/t for feed barley and €132/t for feed wheat this year, with an additional €10/t being paid by Glanbia Co-op to society members.

The Glanbia price for feed oats is €112/t, with €155/t being paid for malting barley, and €357/t offered for oilseed rape. The co-op top up of €10/t will also be paid on these crops.

While accepting that this was the fourth year of poor grain prices, Glanbia chairman Henry Corbally said the company was endeavouring to move as much grain as possible into premium niche markets.

"Over 40pc of our total intake now attracts some level of premium or bonus; this is worth around €2m in total to growers compared to the equivalent non-contracted grains," he said.

Dairygold cereal prices

Dairygold has also this week finalised its 2016 harvest cereal prices. It has set a Barley price of €133/t and a €141/t wheat price both ex-VAT.

In terms of Oats and malting barley prices, Dairygold has set a price of €128/t and €160/t respectively both also ex-VAT.
