Tidy holding in the west for €75k

A country cottage in the West is the dream of many an Irish exile in far flung lands and also those who regard living in the capital as a form of exile.

A two bedroom cottage on over 13ac within 2km of Ballaghaderreen might be the path to making the dream come true. At a guide price of €75,000, it could be be do-able.

The cottage was somewhat remodelled 30 years ago but needs a lot of work. Auctioneer James Kilcoyne said the building is structurally sound.

However, there are some very interesting outbuildings, which give the site a lot of potential in terms of development. The buildings include a traditional granary, a number of stone buildings and a two-column hayshed.

"This is a lovely tranquil spot," Mr Kilcoyne says, "close enough to the town and yet completely in the country." The property will be offered for sale by public auction at Durkin's Bar & Restaurant, The Square, Ballaghaderreen on Friday, July 1 at 3pm.
