Texel society gears up for busy autumn

As the sheep breeding season approaches, the Irish Texel Sheep Society has announced dates and venues for its autumn shows and sales.
The season opens with a two-day event at Blessington Livestock Mart where the society Premier Show and Sale will take place on August 12 and 13 with an entry of 250 males and 100 females. Judging gets under way at 2pm on Friday and the sale commences at 11am on Saturday.
Kerr Jarvie of the multi-award winning Duncryne Texel flock in Scotland has accepted the invitation from the society to judge at the show.
The Wicklow event is the first of four sales being organised by the society at national level. The others are scheduled for Tullamore (multi-breed) on Saturday, August 27; Blessington (multi-breed) on Saturday, September 24 and Blessington for a lamb ewe sale on Saturday, December 3. Six regional Irish Texel Sheep Society clubs will each organise between three and 10 sales within their regions over the coming months.
The largest choice of venue is being provided by the West Region Irish Texels Club with 10 sales taking place including two each at Roscommon, Athenry and Ballinasloe; with sales also at Delvin, Tuam, Maam Cross and Mountbellew between August and December.
Donegal Texels Club have four sales scheduled for Raphoe, one each month from August-November, and North Connacht Texels have announced three sales, two at Ballinrobe and one at Ballina. In the North East Texel region, four sales are scheduled, three at Cootehill and one at Carnaross.
Tullow, New Ross, and Enniscorthy are the venues for the South East Texel Club sales and in the south west the venues are Milltown in Kerry, Macroom and Roscrea. Further details on all of the sales and venues are available from the society or the regional officers.
