Surprise Brophy exit from Connacht Gold

Helen Brophy is to depart Connacht Gold less than nine months after taking over as the co-op's head of consumer foods.
It has also emerged this week that her role will be filled on an interim basis by Dr Sean Brady.
Ms Brophy's departure comes as a major surprise. She only moved to Connacht Gold in April this year following a term as head of the National Dairy Council (NDC), where she was credited with raising its profile significantly. She also launched the very successful 'NDC mark' drive for Irish milk and cream.
Ms Brophy's departure follows the recent purchase by Connacht Gold of Donegal Creameries dairy business, which has added 120m litres to the co-op's milk pool in the northwest.
Ms Brophy said she was leaving to join the Smurfit Graduate School of Business, which is part of UCD.
Dr Brady, who has been appointed to head the co-op's consumer foods business, was chairman of the industry group that produced the Food Harvest 2020 report and is currently chairman of the Dairy Expansion Activation Group. He was interim head of the Irish Dairy Board in 2009 and was previously the managing director at Irish Sugar.
